As Lenny prepares to attack (well almost) Oscar as per the orders of his elder brother Frankie, Lenny manages to rescue Oscar from this troublesome situation. Frankie notices the intentions of Lenny of disobeying him and charges towards Lenny. An anchor hits Frankie accidentally and he dies. Lenny runs off from the spot and Oscar by the turn of fate wins the title of ‘Shark slayer’.
Oscar returns to accolades and becomes rich enough to employ Sykes as his manager and begins to live the rich life with his new girlfriend Lola. Things get complicated when Don Lino sends out his sharks to find Lenny and Oscar’s expected to combat the killers and drive them away. Complicating matters further is the return of Lenny who seeks shelter with Oscar. Angie’s discovery of the truth behind the sham also adds to Oscar’s misery as he struggles to keep up.

Watchmen is set in alternate 1985 and is directed by Zack Snyder. The plot of the film revolves around a group of ex-crime fighters who retired almost 10 years ago but are again to re-group so that they can investigate a murder of one of the members of their group. Zack gets kudos for this film as he had the courage to adapt a very difficult novel into a film. 300 proved that he is a competent director and with ‘Watchmen’ he will rank among the very best. He has tried his level best to remain as close to the book as possible except for the ending. But then you can really expect a director to make a page by page rendition of a novel. Even Spielberg will fail to do that. The movie has a good depth which die-hard movie goers will simply relate to.
Zack Snyder should get full marks for such a wonderful adaptation of the book. When 300 was released we had a glimpse of what he can do. But with Watchmen he has surpassed all imagination and reached the zenith of glory. Only the ending of the film differs from the book but the rest is an exact replica of the film.
The characters in the film are introduced one by one and in a well defined manner. The acting in the movie is top class with everyone giving his/her 100%. There is no scope for complaint anywhere. Patrick Wilson as Dan Dreiber is perhaps the best of the lot although Malin Akerman as Silk Spectre II will impress you too. The costumes they wear too match the mood of the film. The smaller characters too have been given due importance and the audience will have no difficulty in recognizing them as the film progresses.
The fight scenes in the film are much longer than what is depicted in the book but they are not drab or dull and do not seem to be out of context. Because of the amount of violence the film has got a rating of 18+ in UK. There is frontal nudity in the film too so the mature certificate is definitely justified.
The special effects in this film deserve special mention. Dr. Manhattan and Mars look awesome and the mask on Rorschach is fun to watch. The film is shot in lots of colors which make it fun to watch. The soundtrack of the film is good and reminds you of that period. These songs might not work in other movies, you might argue, but definitely works here.

Hayao Miyazaki, perhaps, commands the same respect among audiences as Walt Disney for his world class animation films. He made some beautiful films like “Spirited Away” and “Princess Mononoke”. We expected a good film when Ponyo hit the theaters. But we were disappointed. Thye plot is full of loopholes and other departments too lack a finesse which makes the film almost bad. It is an anime which will be liked by the kids but I am not sure about the teens.
The film is a loose adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Little Mermaid”. The story revolves around a goldfish which falls in love with a young human boy. The little fish wishes that she become a girl so that both of them can live their lives together.
Mr. Miyazaki totally disappoints with this movie. It is hard to believe that he is the same man who directed classics like “Spirited Away” and “Howl’s Moving Castle”. Ponyo is nowhere these great films and one wonders why Mr Miyazaki erred while making Ponyo. The animation is good but nothing to write about and we fear the audience might lose interest after the initial 30 minutes or so.
The script of the film, Ponyo should have been well-written. The film lacks punch because of a weak script. Ponyo is one such glaring example. But there are some scenes which show signs of brilliance. There is a scene in which we see Ponyo taking a human form and running along a huge wave that resembles a giant fish. This one should be liked a by all. But a disappointment still lingers – he was definitely capable of making a better film than what Ponyo really is.
Ponyo (Noah Cyrus), a juvenile fish leaves her father (Laim Neeson) behind to explore the wider world. Her father is a magical sea guardian. In her expedition she gets caught in some sort of human trash and is swept ashore to the loving hands of Sosuke (Frankie Jonas), a five year old boy. The two of them develops a liking for each other. One fine day she tastes a drop of Sosuke’s blood which changes her into a little girl. Her father makes a valiant effort to stop the changes but fails to do so. Ponyo, on the other hand, does not listen to anybody and breaks free from the fishy world and head towards the surface.
A lot of incidents take place after Ponyo heads for the surface. The tides are rising and the moon is coming closer. But why? The love between Ponyo and the boy must be successful to stop all these. The children will probably love Ponyo but I feel a sense of pity for the parents as it will be a real torture for them. Pierre Morrel’s Taken is a French action thriller that gives you an edge of the seat excitement for the full duration of the movie. The movie revolves around the kidnapping the daughter of an ex-CIA operative. However, they were unaware of what kind of dedicated father they were dealing with.
A divorced ex – CIA operative named Bryan Mills is over protective about her daughter Kim (Maggie Grace). Though he initially refused but ultimately gives in and signs the consent form to allow her daughter to travel to Paris with her friend Amanda. So she arrives in Paris with her friend but is abducted from the apartment where they are staying by a group of unknown young men. Before she gets nabbed she just had the time to give a brief description of the abductors to her father over the cell phone.
The drama begins when Kim, their daughter, seeks Bryan’s consent so that she can go to Paris with one of her friends. After much reluctance Bryan gives in but makes her promise that she will call her regularly. He even gives her an international cell phone for the purpose. Kim arrives at Paris with her friend Amanda and puts up in an apartment. Very soon they nabbed by a bunch of unknown people right from their apartment. Kim was on call at that point of time and she just had the time to give some descriptions of the abductors to her dad, Bryan makes a promise – he will find her at any cost.
Just after this the pace of the movie changes and we see high voltage action from now on. Bryan is able to follow leads and pin down one guy after another and comes menacingly close to the main culprits. The desperation of a father is clearly shown as Liam threatens one of the bad guys over the phone in clear terms “I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you”.
The trailers of the movie did not give out any major detail of the story. So kudos to the makers of the film for that. Pierre and his team have easily delivered the best action thriller of the year. The action sequences are the highlight of this movie.
The film showcases some real good performances from all the actors. One of the better performances comes from Liam Neeson and Maggie Grace. Liam Neeson as a desperate father gives a brilliant performance and this role is quite different from the kind of roles he has essayed before. Maggie Grace is convincing as her daughter but has very little to do in a film which is action oriented.

The brother goes to Crystal Lake in search of her sister and meets a group of young college kids there who are there to spend the weekend in a cabin by the lake.
The story of all the versions of Friday the 13th is quite simple. People are shown going to the woods adjoining the Crystal Lake and they get killed in a barbaric way. You might feel that the series has a one-track story. But I don’t expect people thronging the theaters for watching an award winning story or any emotional scenes. Jason is shown killing people around with a machete in the earlier versions. But he gets himself promoted in this flick. He is using bear traps, bow and arrow, ice pick, an axe and well, anything that is sharp actually.
When you watch this movie always forget about any kind of morality. The film is full of steamy scenes, excessive drinkers and weed smokers. But this is what you get in an out and out horror flick. The performances of the actors are nothing to write home about but Jared Padalecki does deliver a good performance. Though his expressions are limited, he still manages to impress us. But still the film might not be able to catapult him to stardom.
It will be a foolish decision to watch the film at a theater. Had I been in your place then I would have switched on my PC and watch Friday the 13th online free. No tension, no hassles.
