A Synopsis Of The Usual Suspects

The 1995 film, The Usual Suspects was written by Christopher McQuarrie. It is a classic mystery film, complete with high crime, murder and suspense, with a few good twists that truly make this film not only memorable, but a good watch–particularly the first time around.
The movie’s cast is star studded and includes the likes of Benicio Del Toro, Kevin Spacey, Gabriel Byrne, Stephen Baldwin, Kevin Pollak, Pete Postlethwaite and Chazz Palminteri.
The film is set on a ship deck in a harbor on the coast of San Pedro, California; this setting also serves as both the opening scene and the scene of the mysterious mass murder crime. The camera pans a dead body and rests over a figure trying to light both himself and the ship on fire when a mysterious man approaches and shoots him. The unknown shooter then lights the ship on fire himself.
Presented via a series of flashbacks, on going police interviews and a succession of inquisitive dialogue, The Usual Suspects tries to piece together the events that led to the mass murder crime through the testimony of the the only surviving member of the crime gang. This man is Roger “Verbal” Kint, a disabled man with cerebral palsy is played by Kevin Spacey.
Part of the ensemble that orchestrated the crime, the disabled Roger Kint is questioned harshly by a Special Agent Dave Kujan (Chazz Palminteri).
Roger Kint’s retelling of the implicating previous events in addition to the testimony of an injured Hungarian criminal hospitalized after the ship incident, allow Kujan to piece together the truth of the whole ordeal. Through this he discovers the existence of the infamous yet anonymous Kesyer Soze.
Whether Keyser Soze even exists is a mystery to Kujan and whether or not he finds the mythical mastermind depends solely on Verbal Kint’s testimony.
An intellectual suspense movie, The Usual Suspects will leave you trying to keep up. Rolling Stone magazine stated that Kevin Spacey’s performance was Oscar worthy and most critics agreed; as Roger Kint, he was organic and captivating.
Despite a terrible review from Roger Ebert and averaged moderate reviews, this film was well received by film festivals. It was also nominated for Academy Awards in the following categories: Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Screenplay. It took both of those awards home with Kevin Spacey winning the award for the former and Christopher McQuarrie for the latter, his brainchild.
The film also took home an award for Best Supporting Actor for Benicio Del Toro and another Best Screenplay for Christopher McQuarrie from the Independent Spirit Awards as well as Best Cinematography for that category. Cinematographer Newton Thomas Sigel used various techniques, such as a wide range of dolly movement and creeping zooms in order to quickly create the tight close up atmosphere of the film’s intense dialogue scenes.
Still highly recognized today, the movie made film history in June 2008, when the American Film Institute (AFI) declared it part of it’s Ten Top Ten list, ranking as the tenth best mystery film ever made. Keyser Soze also made history: he is noted by the American Film Institute as one of the prominent film villains of the century.

Unleashed On Movie Downloads

Unleashed, or as it was known in every country besides the United States, Danny the Dog, was one of Jet Li’s last kung fu movies and one of his best made in the English language. The film is all about the concepts of family, personal freedom and dignity, and it really completely invents its own style of martial arts from the ground up. It’s definitely worth a watch the next time you want to watch movies online and see some great chop socky action.
The movie follows Danny, Danny the Dog, a young man who has been raised since childhood as an attack dog by Uncle Bart, a low rent loan shark and gangster, played to the sleaziest extremes by Bob Hoskins. Danny and Uncle Bart, interestingly, actually feel some love for one another. It’s not a healthy relationship, but there is some love there, and it adds a layer of complexity that lends a lot of depth to what could have been a typical action flick.
The movie has a very clever gimmick, you’ll wish you’d come up with it: Danny the Dog wears a collar. When the collar is on, he’s friendly, quiet and peaceful. When the collar comes off, he’s violent and wild, attacking anyone Uncle Bart tells him to attack. This offers Bart a lot of opportunities to be menacing to his clients when he needs to intimidate them.
Danny escapes his boss and winds up in the home of a kindly old piano maintenance man played by none other than Morgan Freeman. Freeman and his daughter take it upon themselves to teach Danny what love and family are really all about, far different from the kind of family Danny had with his Uncle Bart.
There is a lot of familiar territory here, it’s an old story: A dog runs from a cruel family and winds up in the home of a kind family. However, by replacing the dog with a young man, producer Luc Besson has stumbled upon a very clever twist. This lends a lot of extra mileage to a story that could feel stale and tired in a less talented story teller’s hands.
The action in this film is really something. Danny doesn’t do kung fu, he attacks like a rabid dog. It’s more fitting to his character, of course, and it’s an incredible thing to see in action. He bites and scratches, he pulls hair, he just goes wild against his opponents, and it creates a very unique and bizarre fighting style that, of course, would probably be quite ineffective in real life, but is one of those styles like Jackie Chan’s take on drunken boxing that has a lot of personality and expresses the character better than the dialog does.
The movie is ultimately an action flick, and Jet Li beats everyone up and they all live happily ever after and so on and so forth, but there’s a surprising amount of emotional depth and complexity here, as well as some surprisingly great action scenes. Still, you could remove the action and still have a fascinating drama on your hands here.
So if you haven’t seen it yet, give it a viewing. It’s certainly one of Jet Li’s best movies to be given a wide release in the US.

The Matrix Was A Groundbreaking Movie

The Matrix was one the great movies released towards the end of the 90’s, the leading stars in the cast were Keano Reeves, Lawrence Fishbourne and Carrie-Anne Moss. It was the first in a trilogy, the second and third being called Reloaded and Revolations respectively.
The directors of the movie were the Wachowski brothers, it took them about eight years for them to get a movie company to finance the movie and in the end Warner said yes. It was an excellent decision by Warner as the Matrix brand was extremely successful and financially rewarding for all.
The movie is set some 200 years into the future, it is at this time that machines have overpowered humans and the last survivors free of the machines live deep underground near the core of the almost burned out earth. For the rest of the human race is kept in a computer program called the Matrix. Whilst their minds wonder around the program the machines use their bodies as sources of power.
There are a small group of humans however that are not part of the program who have hidden themselves from the machines deep underground near the earth’s core. Through their ingenuity they have been able to hack into the matrix and interact with it allowing them to free people from the grasp of program.
As mentioned the plot follows a character called Neo, a person who has been trapped inside the Matrix. Neo leads a normal life within the computer world working for a reputable software company whilst selling illegal hacking programs on the side. In the matrix there are stories of what it actually is and Neo is intreged by them following one transgressions of one of the leaders Morpheus.
Little does Neo know but Morpheus has been looking for him, Morpheus sets Neo free from the computer world in which he has lived his life and informs him of his destiny.
Neo later finds out that the reason Morpheus had been looking for him to free him was because Morpheus believes that Neo is ‘the one’, he believes he is the person to save the human race and defeat the machines. Allowing the humans to return to the surface. The film focuses on Neo’s journey understanding how to interact in the computer world and how to do things that he thought were not possible.
Every potential ‘One’ must visit the oracle to see if they truly are the one. When Neo visits her she tells him he is not but that Morpheus will die believing that he is. When the moment occurs Neo chooses to go back and save Morpheus, when he does then both Morpheus and Neo start to believe maybe he is the one.
After saving Morpheus, they return to their exit point only to be confronted by ‘Agents’ these are computer programs within the system designed to find any rebel humans and kill them. A battle ensues and Agent Smith kills Neo. Trinity declares that Neo can’t die because she loves him. Neo’s heart starts beating and he rises, confronts Smith and destroys him. From that moment on Neo sees the matrix in code form and is able to start fully utilizing the abilities he has as the one.
