This is a How to Train a Dragon movie review that contains some spoilers. This movie definitely falls into traditional Disney movie from the weak little boy being the son of the great leader of the tribe, to the main character becoming the one that has to change the village, even to the main character liking the girl who he definitely is never supposed to have. His name is Hiccup, a perfectly fitting name since he, a skinny little nerd, is a mistake (or hiccup) in this overly muscular barbaric village.

Armed with his intensely dry humor and his intelligence to create inventions rather than to beastly destroy life, he sets out determined to snag a dragon and take its heart back to his father. He arms his weapons, fires, and nails the dreaded “Night Fury” (the most dangerous of all dragons). The next day when he looks for the creature he is moved by the creature’s innocence and frees him. Then he begins his anthropological study of the creature and learns that everything that they know about dragons is a lie.

Although I won’t ruin the end, the comedy in the film is nice along with the visual effects of the movie. I do recommend the IMAX 3D experience if you get the chance. There is no singing an aspect that seems only to be left to the 2D movies for Disney now, but I don’t think it would have fit this movie anyway. Some of the dragon scenes may be a little intense for the really young, however Disney does try to blend comedy with it so if it does frighten them; they should be laughing shortly after.

There are only two flaws in the movie which involve the main character’s love interest and the end of the movie. Granted most enjoy rooting for the “nerd” of the movie to get with the girl of his dreams, however she seems to fall a little too quickly for him without really any plausibility. But I guess this is supposedly based on his nobility and personality, and once she learns who the “real” Hiccup is. There is a surprise tweak to the ending which is nice, but still it falls under the traditional Disney ending.

Would this be something worth seeing? Yes, if there are hardcore Disney fans out there that want to see something for the whole family then don’t miss this one. But this may not be for you if you are looking for extremely hilarious or possibly more aggressive. This movie really stresses knowledge and learning over pure violence.

Alright, I just got back from seeing the new Tyler Perry movie. So here is the Why Did I Get Married Too movie review. There are some highs and some lows, but it still constitutes a movie worth seeing because of the highs. Tyler Perry is definitely something to look for if a person has never seen any of his movies, usually they are either spot on or quite awful. For once this movie isn’t exactly as easy as the other, being obviously great or bad.

There is definitely a plot line and it is easy to follow, a common trait of all of his works. He never tries to create a story that is foreign or irrelevant. Literally the title says it all, “why did I get married?” This is chapter two of four couples from the end of the first one. Surprisingly they have new problems in each of their relationships, except for Angela and Marcus; it seems like the same old problem. Diane could possibly be cheating, Troy is jobless, and Patricia and Gavin are on the rocks. He cleverly takes you inside each of the characters and offers enough drama to keep you entertained.

Many of the characters in the movie could be people that we know, making it easy to remember them. Perry can easily show a person’s strengths and weaknesses naturally. Right off the bat, Angela shows her personality as a confrontational person that is not about to put up with anything from anyone, especially her husband. Patricia (Janet Jackson) is a person that takes care of everybody else’s problems but her own. And Tyler Perry’s character, Terry, pays close attention to everything that his wife is doing differently as well as give advice to the other male characters about women, demonstrating a few weaknesses.

However even with all the good parts something that was surprising which was the ending. The previews were right, one couple doesn’t make it, but not for the reason that you would think. Perry is a writer that I can appreciate because he does well with tying up all loose ends by the end of whatever he writes, from the plays to the movies. But this time it was a little different because Angela and Marcus are left in the same predicament and Patricia and Gavin’s problem simply abruptly ends. Although I won’t give away the ending, the ending was definitely rushed. He attempts to make ties, even though it is rushed and probably need thirty more minutes in an already two hour and fifteen minute movie. Also a thing that’s a flaw a long with the rushing, was some of the scenes went in and out of focus and some of the sound was slightly muffled at times. Whether this was a specific issue with just the theater, like the sound, or with the movie, the focusing was undoubtedly a problem with shooting the film, but I don’t know which one it was. But it was still an issue.

In the end the movie is definitely worth seeing although you may be okay with the ending or slightly disappointed. Not because it’s bad, only rushed. This Why Did I Get Married Too movie review gives it 4 out of 5 stars.
