Chris Columbus has only improved since the first Harry Potter installment. The Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets movie gets a little darker compared to its predecessor and also is more for adults than for kids.

The movie follows the book pretty closely but to add to the entire feel of it the director has quite a few well-developed visuals which actually take your breath away. Some of the set-ups almost give you the creeps and look extremely realistic. In addition, the young actors have definitely improved on their acting skills and put forth a far better performance.

Daniel Radcliffe returns to play the role of the famous Harry Potter who is entering his second year at Hogwarts. With Voldemort out of the way, Harry has no real fear of retuning to school but the house elf Dobby has other thoughts. He tries his best, first to stop Harry from going to Hogwarts and when things start going wrong at school, he wants Harry to leave.

Some really good casting also leads to the movies success. Kenneth Branagh, who plays the role of the egomaniac Lockhart, and is extremely funny and plays his role really well. This role was first supposed to be played by Hugh Grant but was then passed onto Kenneth Branagh who made the most of his opportunity. Another, notable performance is by Jason Isaacs, who acts as the prejudiced and highly racist Lucius Malfoy.

One of the saddest parts for Harry Potter fans around the world is the death of actor Richard Harris, who gave a masterful performance as Dumbledore. It came as a shock when he passed away just a few weeks before the world premier of the movie. His last performance was indeed one of his best and it may be difficult to replace him.
