A home theater system is an exciting entertainment choice that provides the consumer with an immersive viewing and listening experience. Your home theater system can be something as simple as a 27-inch TV and a home theater-in-a-box system, or a sophisticated custom-built system with video projector and in-wall speakers. However, there is a lot to consider in-between. Here are the items you need for a well-balanced Home Theater System:

The Room: The first place to start is the room in which you intend to place your home theater system. The size of the room will determine the size and type of video display device (TV or projector) that might be best to utilize. However, whether your room is large or small, additional questions to consider include… Just how much ambient light is present? Is the room carpeted or not carpeted? What type of wall construction do you have? Will you be placing your home theater system components in free space, or will you be housing your components in a cabinet or closet and installing your speakers in the wall or ceiling? Where will you be sitting in relation to the screen image?

Before embarking on buying your actual home theater system components, particularly for a medium-to-high end system, it might be a good idea to consult with a home theater installer to come onsite and assess your room and address the above questions. The installer can make useful suggestions on components or installation concepts that will work best in your room environment, keeping in mind your own specific home theater system budgetary considerations.

The Video Display Device is the first actual component to consider for your home theater system. After all, the idea of home theater is to bring the movie theater experience home. The most important element of this experience is the visual experience of viewing a large image on a screen. The actual size of the room will help determine the size of screen that can be accommodated. From there, you need to decide what type of video display device might be most appropriate.

In addition, at this point in time, with the increase in the amount of available HDTV programming sources, as well as HD source components, consider a fully integrated HDTV (ATSC tuner built-in), HD-compatible Television (requires an external ATSC tuner), or a Video projector, in lieu of a conventional analog television. HDTVs, HD-compatible Televisions, and video projectors will deliver the most from new HD sources, however will also work with your older analog components, such as a VCR.

You also now have the option of incorporating 3D viewing into your home theater system. Nonetheless, you will need a 3D-enabled TV and other supporting components to do this.

The next essential element of the movie theater experience is Audio Reproduction. The way this is implemented in a home theater system is with either an AV receiver or Preamp/Amp combination.

An AV Receiver usually combines the functions of three components: (A) A radio tuner for AM/FM and, in some cases, HD (High Definition Radio), Web Radio, or XM and/or Sirius Satellite Radio. (B) A Preamplifier that switches and controls which audio and video source is selected (such as a DVD player, VCR, CD player, etc…) and processes the incoming stereo or surround sound signals and distributes them to the correct amplifier channels and the subwoofer output. The preamp in an AV receiver can additionally route video signals coming from source components (such as a DVD player) and direct the video signal to the television. (C) A built-in Multi-channel amplifier (5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 channels) that delivers the surround sound signals and power to the speaker system.

The Home Theater, AV, Surround Sound Receiver or Separate Preamp and Amplifier Receiver is the heart of a home theater system and provides most, if not all of the inputs and outputs that you connect, including your television, into. A Receiver provides an simple and cost-effective method of centralizing your your home theater system.

Nonetheless, in many higher-end home theater system installations, the functions of a Receiver are often provided by separate components: Preamp/Processor, Tuner, and either a single multi-channel amplifier or even separate amplifiers for each channel. Such a setup provides more flexibility in switching out and/or upgrading the separate aspects of the home theater system as well as isolating any interference that is caused by having all these functions combined in a signal chassis and sharing the same power supply. For the average consumer, nonetheless, a good Receiver will function just fine.

The next components to consider for your home theater system are the Loudspeakers. Just as the size and type of room dictates the type of video display device you need, the same factors additionally affect the speakers you need for your home theater. Two key points to remember: (A) Before you purchase, listen to a number of types of speaker setups. (B) Consider buying the same brand and related model speakers for your home theater. This will ensure that you will have a better acoustical match between both the speakers and the room.

The advent of home theater systems has introduced the Subwoofer to many consumers. A subwoofer is a specialized speaker that only reproduces the extreme low frequencies present in movies or music. There are a number of types of subwoofers you can use in a home theater system and, once again, the size and type of room and problems such as whether the room is carpeted or not will help you determine which subwoofer is right for you. Once again, you need to perform listening tests.

At a minimum, you need some type of Source Component like a DVD player for your home theater system. Two things to consider in a DVD player: Progressive Scan and Up-scaling capability. This will ensure that you get the best possible image from your DVDs, particularly if you are viewing them on an HDTV.

Since all DVD players can play CDs, you may not need a CD player. Nonetheless, having a separate CD-only player in a home theater system is quite common, especially if it is a high-end unit providing better CD audio performance.

Also, if you choose to get a Blu-ray Disc player to access true high definition source content, in lieu of, or in addition to, a DVD player, you can also use it to play standard DVDs and, in many cases, audio CDs as well.

In addition, you may also want to include a DVD recorder or DVD recorder/VCR combination in lieu of your old VCR. Nonetheless, you can still use your old VCR (especially if it is a Hi-Fi Stereo unit) with your home theater system – but, keep in mind VHS delivers very poor image quality in comparison to DVD, and although DVD is much better than VHS, Blu-ray really delivers a true high definition image. The differences are particularly more noticeable as screen sizes get larger.

Likewise, you need to decide just how you will receive your primary television programming: Antenna, Cable, or Satellite. If you opt to subscribe to a Cable or Satellite Service, you might also consider combining that service with a DVR. DVRs provide a way to record your TV programs on a Hard Drive, rather than disc or tape.

Finally, one more new home theater source choice is the Internet. If you have high-speed Internet access, you can stream both music and movies, without having to buy a DVD or Blu-ray Disc. An increasing number of Blu-ray Disc players and TVs have the capability to hook up to the Web for this purpose, though there are likewise external boxes, referred to as Network Media Players or Media Streamers, that provide this option as well, and they are very affordable.

Surge Protectors are the unsung heroes of a home theater system. Although they are not foolproof, providing your system with some sort of surge protection is a good idea. You never know when you might have a sudden power outage, or even a brown out that might possibly affect your system.

Additionally, if you want a more comprehensive method of protecting against power surges, as well as being able to monitor your power, and in some cases regulate your power, you might consider a Line Conditioner.

You can’t have a home theater system unless everything is hooked up. Whether you purchase basic connection cables and speaker wire or the really high-end stuff, the main things to consider are utilizing the right type, right length, and hooking up everything correctly. Some connections are color-coded; make sure the colors on the cable ends match the connections on your components to makes things a lot easier.

In terms of speaker cable, the gauge of the cable can be a factor, depending on the distance the speakers are from the amplifier or AV receiver. I use 16 or 14 gauge speaker wire myself. 18 gauge is very thin and really should not be utilized for longer distances.

Universal Remote Control: One of the most confusing parts of a home theater system is not really all the components and connections, but actually managing and controlling it. Each component in a home theater system comes with its own remote, leading to a collection that can number half-a-dozen or more. One solution is to opt for a sophisticated, though easier to utilize, universal remote that can control many of the functions of each of your components. After the initial hurdle of programming the remote for your system, such a device will enable everybody in the family to utilize the home theater system without frustration.

You have a fancy home theater system, now you need some comfortable furniture that will make you want to allocate time with your home theater. Your furniture can be of the typical sofa and chair variety, or you can opt for specialized home theater furniture that includes features such as built-in cup holders and overstuffed padding.

There you have it, the basic elements of a home theater system. There is no home theater system that is exactly like the next; everyone has different rooms, budgets, brand preferences, and decorative tastes when it comes to their home theater. The key thing is to keep the basic elements of a well-balanced home theater in mind, while assembling it according to your own desires and tastes.

Although putting together a basic home theater system is not as complicated as it seems on the surface and may be a nice weekend project for many consumers, when installing a high-end custom home theater, make sure you enlist the aide of a professional home theater installer.

When you’re ready to design your new home theater, make sure you check out the home theater blog at All Star Audio Video.

The Regular 8mm and Super 8mm Film are probably the most utilised film format of all time. The Super 8mm is regarded as an straightforward but top quality alternative to the Regular 8mm. Often, Super 8 and 8mm are terms utilised interchangeably. Nonetheless, there are key points that differentiate one from the other.

Eastman Kodak introduced the Standard 8mm in 1932 to the marketplace as a cheaper alternative to the 16mm. Not long right after, it became a common format for home movies and low-cost film productions. About more than 3 decades later, Kodak released the Super 8mm, which, as the name suggests is really a hybrid of the Standard 8mm. It was in a position to record sound and supplied improvements both for image top quality and ease of use and thus, became the preferred low-cost format. Within the 1980′s, with the advent of VHS and VCR tapes, each Super and Standard 8mm suffered significant reductions with regards to consumer preference.

Super 8mm films have sprocket holes that only cover fifty percent of the width necessary by Regular 8mm films. Consequently, this allows Super 8mm film area to be larger than the Standard 8mm. This enables Super 8mm to capture a lot more data. Physically, Standard 8 mm films may be differentiated from Super 8mm films via the size of its sprocket holes. The sprocket holes of Regular 8mm films are larger and run the top and bottom of every frame whilst Super 8mm films have smaller sprocket holes which are aligned at center of every single frame.

With regards to usage, Standard 8mm films are shot on 16mm films and run via the camera twice. It entails operating the film by means of the camera once and exposing half of it, after which, the film is flipped and run through the camera once more to expose the second half. Upon processing, the film is split at the center and attached at the ends which make a single roll of 8mm film that’s twice the length of the original 16mm roll. Using Super 8mm films is much less tedious as they load simply into a camera and are sold in ready-to-use cartridges as opposed to reels which require threading. Super 8mm films only run via the camera as soon as since it truly is originally an 8 millimeter film.

Transferring Regular or Super 8mm to DVD needs which you inspect them for scratches and lines at the same time as other defects. Some of these are repairable but other people are not. Films stored in humid environments are a lot more most likely to have mold, mildew or fungus on them. Typically starting at the edges, it gradually works its approach to the emulsion, damaging the film within the method. The harm could be stopped with chemicals especially if is contained in the outer edges. Damage in the emulsion may also be removed but it generally ruins the film irreversibly.

Another issue that arises with decades of time is shirnkage. You are able to manually test for it by comparing 100 strips of the film you want to test and 100 frames of a new film or a new white leader. A Shrinkage Gauge can be loaned from the Association of Moving Image Archivists but you’ll need to become a member. Shrinkage of more than 0.8% may harm the film if loaded on a projector. 2% shrinkage means that the film can not be salvaged even by essentially the most skilled professionals.

Most people transfer their Standard and Super 88mm films to DVD for much better and a lot more convenient viewing. If you are nonetheless hanging on to these decades-old media, don’t wait any longer. Memories are precious so it is greatest to ensure that these once-in-a lifetime events are saved on a digital format that enables you to get pleasure from them to the fullest and more importantly, won’t degrade.

Joe Redford has been transferring 8mm to DVD since 1995. He spends most of his waking hours helping customer with video transfer questions at Play it Again Video in Newton, MA .

The film coverage on The Arts Desk this week is jam-packed with goodies, with reviews of 'The Deep Blue Sea' and 'Moneyball' and interviews with directors Mike Mills and Terence Davies.

The film coverage on The Arts Desk this week is jam-packed with goodies, with reviews of ‘The Deep Blue Sea’ and ‘Moneyball’ and interviews with directors Mike Mills and Terence Davies.

Looking at what it was like in 1970s San Francisco when AIDS first tore through the gay community through five eyewitnesses, David Weissman and Bill Weber’s documentary film ‘We Were Here’ is the first of this week’s film reviews. The extraordinary stories of these people speak for themselves and enable their quiet, unsentimental heroism to overpower the doom and gloom.

‘The Deep Blue Sea’ is a film starring Rachel Weisz, which is beautifully shot and gorgeously sensual, but still remains unconvincing and artificial seeming. It is a story about an illicit love affair in the 1950s that can’t escape its theatrical origins and drowns in its own overdone melodrama.

Jim Sheridan’s ‘Dream House’ is sadly a rather unoriginal foray into the home-invasion thriller territory. The film is the second of this week’s movie releases to feature Rachel Weisz and starts intriguingly enough. The big twist occurs halfway through though and leaves the rest of the film to flounder.

Based on baseball manager Billy Beane’s struggle to bring his Oakland team into the Major League in 2002, ‘Moneyball’ is a true story. It breaks the mould of the typical baseball movie as it avoids artificial game sequences and uses real footage for the most part instead. Even for those not au fait with the rules of baseball, it’s still a great movie with plenty of surprises up its sleeve.

Bringing together four of the Greek director’s unique films, Kieron Tyler flagged up the release of the ‘Theo Angelopoulos Collection’. Meanwhile the DVD release of the assured Oscar-winning thriller ‘The Secret in Their Eyes’ was praised by Nick Hasted for squaring up to Argentina’s dark past.

Steve Alexander enjoys reading the latest film reviews. For more information on the top movie releases in the UK, visit theartsdesk.com.

The 1964 film “Zulu” tells the story from the defence of Rorke’s Drift by the small garrison of British soldiers who had been assaulted by in excess of 4,000 Zulu warriors. The soldiers held out while the conflicts raged in to the night of 22/23 Jan 1879. In the daybreak, the Zulus had brought an end to the attack.

The movie stars Stanley Baker and Michael Caine with Richard Burton narrating and was a follow up to “Zulu Dawn”. That motion picture told the storyline of the Battle of Isandlwana that happened earlier that day. The initial clips start with the consequences of Isandlwana as Richard Burton narrates the telegram from Lord Chelmsford informing the government of the loss of Isandlwana. Zulus are shown accumulating guns from the dead British troopers.

Before the battle, Rorke’s Drift was a mission station operated by Swedish missionary Otto Witt. While Lord Chelmsford brought his men across the Buffalo River and into Zululand from Natal, a company from the 24th Regiment remained behind to watch the mission station that was being used as a hospital and a supply depot by the British. The 2 commanders were Lieutenant John Chard from the Royal Engineers played by Stanley Baker and Lieutenant Gonville Bromhead of the 24th performed by Michael Caine. This was Caine’s 1st starring role.

The picture shows Chard as well as some troops putting up a bridge on the Buffalo River. Bromhead returns following a hunting trip and the 2 exchange words before a scouting party arrives updating them of the calamity at Isandlwana. Chard is seen to assume overall control as he was commissioned a few months ahead of Bromhead and despite the fact that this is normal procedure, it irks Bromhead. They look at their choices with Lieutenant Joseph Ardendorff with the Natal Native Contingent (NNC) who had been just one of the few survivors out of Isandlwana. Ardendorff is performed by Gert Van den Bergh. The Afrikanner talks about the Zulu “Horns of the Buffalo”? battle tactics. Bromhead is convinced they must leave however Chard makes the decision to stand and fight on ground of their choosing.

The Reverand Otto Witt and his adult daughter also are at the mission station and try to get the men to run away in order to stop a fight. Witt swayed troops of the NNC to leave Rorke’s Drift. At that point, Chard orders Witt and his daughter to go out of the mission station in their buggy. At the same time, defensive lines of mealie sacks and wagons are now being lined out to improve the lines of defence by joining the store room and the hospital. This is conducted under the watchful eye of CSM Frank Bourne performed by Nigel Green.

As the Zulu warriors made their way to attack the garrison, Boer horsemen arrive at Rorke’s Drift. In spite of requests from Chard, the Boers get away from the British garrison. Soon enough the assault begins with lines of Zulu warriors squaring up with the British defences. The Zulu warriors are mown down by concentrated fire from the soldiers of the 24th and they eventually fall back. Following that, Zulu riflemen in the hillsides start up shooting down into the mission station and the British suffer their 1st deaths and injuries.

The Zulus keep probing with their attacks and in due course get into the hospital, setting fire to the roof along the way. Private Henry Hook, who has thus far been described as a good for nothing layabout, just takes control of the situation within the infirmary where he helps with a breakout of the unwell by digging through the walls of the infirmary. The survivors escape the burning infirmary over to the final redoubt near the store house as the conflicts continued into the night.

By morning, the Zulus started a war song ready for a final assault. The troops of the 24th reacted by singing “Men of Harlech”. The last assault see the Zulus charge into a hail of British rifle fire as 3 ranks of troops fire volley after volley down into the onrushing Zulu warriors. Due to such serious losses, the Zulus finally withdraw. The British begin to regroup and CSM Bourne takes a role call. The Zulus come back on the hillsides looking down on the mission station however as an alternative to attacking, they sing in salute of the “fellow warriors”.

The film concludes with Richard Burton narrating. He reads out the names of the 11 men who were awarded the Victoria Cross for the Battle of Rorke’s Drift. The men who won the Victoria Cross were:

- Corporal William Wilson Allen

- Lieutenant Gonville Bromhead

- Lieutenant John Rouse Merriot Chard

- Acting Assistant Commissary James Langley Dalton

- Private Fredrick Hitch

- Private Alfred Henry Hook

- Private Robert Jones

- Private William Jones

- Surgeon Major James Henry Reynolds

- Corporal Christian Ferdinand Schiess

- Private John Williams

In addition, five men were also awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal:

- Colour Sergeant Frank Bourne

- Private John William Roy

- Second Corporal Michael McMahon

- Second Corporal Francis Attwood

- Wheeler John Cantwell

As with all films based on a true experience, there are many different discrepancies. A few are for artistic licence although others will be oversights for various other reasons.

The film depicts the 24th Regiment of Foot as a Welsh regiment. Yet, it was not renamed the South Wales Borderers until 1881, 2 years later than Rorke’s Drift. There was a significant number (nearly 25%) of men from Wales in B Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment of Foot but the vast majority came from England.

The Swedish missionary Otto Witt was shown in the film that his daughter was grown-up. Yet, his 2 kids were both infants. On top of that he was not the pacifist the motion picture implies and had made it clear he didn’t oppose the British intervention with Cetshawayo.

The British weapons were the Martini-Henry which discharged a significant .45 round. It was easily capable of inflicting substantial damage on the human body. In the film, the wounds on shot Zulu warriors are small. In one scene in the hospital, a warrior who was fighting hand to hand with Private Hook was shot in the back while Hook was uninjured. At such close range, the round from the Martini-Henry would have easily passed through the warrior and killed Hook too.

Now, Rorke’s Drift is a tourism spot for those who really want to learn more about the Anglo Zulu War of 1879.

Michael Caine’s performance in the movie “Zulu” helped to launch his film career. He gave a superb performance in the portrayal of the well known battle at Rorke’s Drift.

There is no better way to celebrate the season, than by sending out a company Christmas card. Seasonal greeting cards touches every recipient in special ways, be it the organizations customers or the employees. It portrays a feeling of love and appreciation.

This practice has become very popular in the last couple of years and sending Christmas cards to friends and family is a generally practice. Giving it to clients and employees is a very good way to develop productivity and loyalty.

One of the many ways of fostering a business relationship is through sending a simple card. It shows and creates an impression that the organization values its customers, is very thankful for all their effort and wish the relationship to continue. It also speaks that the organization is not selfish, as they take time out in knowing how their staffs and customers are faring.

The whole process of giving out cards, from purchase to delivery is actually very cheap. There are so many choices that can be made in style and colors. The customers would rather continue to patronize the organization that remembered them during celebrations, than the one only interested in taking their money.

There are varieties of never ending choice of designs to choose from. You can send out physical cards or go online to create a customized one, and there are many alternatives for personalization. It can also help in making business relationships stable and attract more people to take note.

Giving out a card brings a special feeling to the recipient, and makes them feel very special and important. It reminds people who may have forgotten you that you are still there. It delivers to existing clients and potential customers, by leaving a lasting impression on them.

Smart organizations know it is one of the strategies to promote and foster a good business relationship. Giving a card to a customer makes them know that they are of importance, recognized and appreciated. Aside from that, it shows that the company is selfless in reserving a special time for thanksgiving.

They are special in any way they are sent, it can lift the spirit of those in distress, and it can cheer up people who are feeling down. No matter the age, it is a wonderful feeling to receive a card.

Christmas cards are a great way of building customer loyalty. They also appeal to employees, nevertheless showing appreciation through other ways is also necessary. Though these cards may be sent for the purpose of business, they can also impart on peoples emotion in a warm and friendly manner. You never know how far the simple and short messages will go in lifting someone’s mood.

A company Christmas card can be used as a way to attract new customers and make existing ones stick around much longer. They are small things that talk big about a company, and paint a positive picture to the outside world. It creates a feeling of gratitude, recognition and loyalty.

A company Christmas card is a great way to tell customers that they are appreciated by you at every season. You can use a Christmas video card which has special features to enhance the basic concept of a greeting card.

Many individuals have decided that they wanted to acquire a 3D TV, before they ever hit the market, but now they are here. While some of these 3D TVs are way out of the price range for many households, there are a few which are more reasonable. The Toshiba 46WX800U 46-Inch 1080p 240 Hz Cinema Series 3D LED TV, is among the cheaper choices and we will be going over that TV here.

Not surprisingly 3d tv is outstanding and is not something you would benefit from with ipad movies downloads. Although the display on this TV is only 46 inches as opposed to the 55 inches that many individuals want, this is still a relatively large screen. Not to mention you will find that this is certainly a high definition TV. The contrast ratio is also rather impressive with its 7,000,000:1. This can help to ensure that what every your watching your receiving the clearest picture possible. A thing that will help save electricity is the fact that the TV becomes brighter or dimmer depending on the lighting in the room. Because of this you will not have to adjust anything since it is done for you. Also the fact that this particular TV uses LED lighting means that you will be using considerably less electricity.

The actual TV also comes ready with Wi-Fi access for anyone who has Wi-Fi in their home. This makes this TV ideal for updating your Facebook or your Twitter account. You can also use this TV to watch videos from YouTube and other video sharing sites in style. You will also have the capacity to connect with netflix straight from the TV. Which is perfect for those of you who want to order your netflix shows straight from your TV.

Not surprisingly as you would expect, Toshiba did not sacrifice quality on the audio either. The integrated equalizer as well as stereo speakers helps make this a complete TV. This equalizer can help you to make the sound ideal for what ever room the TV is in. Looking at a movie is great, however it is always better when you’ve got a great sound system to go with it.

Toshiba also considered all the gamers out there and added a bit more technology to this TV. When the TV is in game mode you will see that the action you take on your controller leads to faster action on the screen, this is because of the brand new gamer technology.

You will also be able to save over 50% from the retail price of this TV if you purchase it through Amazon. I am certain that there are a few of you out there that think that, that is still fairly expensive but it is rather inexpensive as compared to the additional units that can cost thousands of dollars. Especially if you take into account that the Toshiba 55 inch 3D TV is usually selling for over $2,000. That fact alone should tell you what a fantastic buy this actually is. So for anybody thinking of getting your first 3D TV, this is one of the most sensibly priced units available.

We know how awful it feels to make the huge effort to ipad movies downloads and only come up short. Right, a lot of people only have difficulties and never get what they genuinely want. Why endure the pain of ipad movies downloads when it is not necessary?

Sound stages NYC have the identical world-class facilities as those in Atlanta. Having exquisite Spanish Mission Style architecture, the convenience of this production spot is adorned a lot more by its location, merely five miles from downtown Atlanta and six miles from the country’s busiest airport terminal. The actors like to be near the city. The executives like to be close to the airport. It boasts a large number of shooting destinations that range from mountain settings, to flatlands and sea scenery.
