Public Enemies is a movie that deals with a gangster during the time of the Great Depression. The director is Michael Mann, and the star cast consists of Marion Cotillard, crowd favorite Johnny Depp, and Christian Bale. The film attempts to show this in a romantic light. As expected, Johnny Depp portrays the character of Dillinger excellently. He adds so much feeling to Dillingers story thanks to his onscreen charisma. Christian Bale on the other hand delivers a pretty good job of playing an FBI agent, Melvin Plus, who is in charge of capturing Dillinger.

From start to finish, Dillinger portrays an aura of confidence, skill and loyalty which makes him a magnet in the eyes of many. At first he gets separated from the gang, but later joins them again and is seen planning and executing meticulous and rapid bank robberies in as little as two minutes. A more likeable side to Dillinger is seen too, when he does not take the possessions of the people present in the bank he robs have.

From the very go, there is a confident, skillful and loyal aire about John Dillinger that makes his character somewhat loveable despite actually being the villain of the piece. Initially John Dillinger is somehow alienated from the gang, but is then shown to be back at his best. He plans bank robberies with absolute meticulousness and precision and some of them take a matter of two minutes to complete. This is where we see the flipside of John Dillinger ” an amiable side. Some people respect him for not robbing peoples possessions directly even when he had them at his mercy.

The Public Enemies movie follows Dillinger both during his days of glory as well as his fall. His story is portrayed extremely well. At times, you actually end up feeling sorry for Dillinger thanks to Johnny Depps flawless acting. There is a lot of blood and gore and some exciting scenes showing exchange of gunfire. But the best thing about the movie is the handling of John Dillingers character by the director.

Christian Bale did not have a very exciting role to play but did a decent job nonetheless considering his part. Marion Cotillard has also done very well and plays Depps love interest.
