To make matters worse, the grandmother tells Mia that she must become Genovias princess and must make a decision if she wants to be so by the end of nightfall. She is offered the title since there is no authentic heir to the throne apart from herself. The rest of the movie then revolves around how Mia prepares herself to become princess material and we follow the thrills and spills on the way.
Though this movie is not exactly surprising or original, as it follows the same old tested formula, it is still charming and manages to warm your heart. What makes it work is the simple, but beautiful story. The movie is bubbly, spirited and a feel-good kind with many parts that are typical of romantic comedies.
Apart from the revival of the lovable Julie Andrews that gives the role of Mias grandmother and extra touch of class, the person that steals the show is Anne Hathaway who has shades of Julia Roberts. This is particularly impressive considering this is Annes debut film.
