So what made this film so impacting? Well, it was partly due to when it was released. It was in a time when people were still trusting their fellow man for the most part. Trusting them almost too much, in fact. This film made you reconsider this aspect of yourself and made you start doing a little bit of investigative work before you decided if anyone was okay to spend time alone with.

The thing that made the film so terrifying was Norman Bates. Not that he alone was just a terrifying antagonist, but that Norman Bates seemed like a normal guy who could have very well been your next door neighbor in any neighborhood. This could be someone that you don’t assume is going to be violently off their rocker, and that is what makes the object so terrifying.

You can expect very little change between the original 1960 release and the revamped version that was released in 1998. The storyline didn’t change much at all, just some details to keep with the times. The film was obviously in color unlike its predecessor, and the special effects and look of the intricate pieces and parts of this film were able to be visualized more directly.

You will still see that the plot has not changed much, as it still follows young Marion Crane. She has just stolen a considerable sum of money (400,000 in 1998 and 40,000 in 1960) from her employer to cover the debts that her boyfriend has accrued. She unfortunately gets trapped in a considerable storm that requires her to check into the Bates Motel for the night.

Through the course of the film you not only learn that Norman Bates has a killer instinct, you also learn a rather shocking and very deadly secret about the Bates family… A secret worth killing for to say the least. In the remake Marion Crane by Anne Heche while the creepy and deadly Norman Bates is played by Vince Vaughn.

You should certainly take the time to appreciate “Psycho” if you have not before. No matter which version you prefer, you are still viewing a classic no matter which of the versions you choose to watch. This helped shape horror and push it to make people reconsider the ingrained good of their fellow man.
