Will Ferrell stars in this movie remake of the seventies classic TV show, The Land of the Lost. While it has some similarities to the classic show, Will and the gang put a different spin on the humor and the high jinks. Ferrell stars as Dr. Rick Marshall, a scientist that believes that time travel is possible and he wants to prove it.

He isn’t the most lovable character and because most people in the field don’t like him and think some of his time travel ideas are crazy, he gets laughed out of the field and becomes a middle school science teacher. One person, Holly, played by Ana Freil, believes in Dr. Marshall’s work and vision and encourages Dr. Marshall to continue his work.

One night, after Dr. Marshall and Holly have gone on an eating binge, they decide to take the time travel device to a cave located in the desert. This cave happened to be a tourist trap run by Will, a flea market fireworks salesman. When Dr. Marshall tries the machine the three are launched into a completely different time dimension, complete with bizarre insects, lizard people, monkey people and a man eating dinosaur. The dinosaur and Dr. Marshall are instant foes and gives us one of the funniest on going gag throughout the film.

The group meets up with a monkey person almost right away named Chaka. With Chaka’s help, the three must recover the lost time travel device in order to return home, but they must survive the countless hazards of the new land they find themselves in. That is if they can keep from killing each other first.

Although this film was not the box office hit that many expected it to be, it was still a funny and entertaining film. It is not up there with some of Will Ferrell best, like Elf and Talladega Nights, but it still has its moments. The interactions between Will, the character, and Chaka will give you some of the best laughs of the film, along with Will Farrell’s child-grownup routine, that many fans have become accustomed to. The graphic and CGI for the film are dome well, except for the lizard people who come off as a little cheesy as a “shout out” of sorts the original show. This film has a PG-13 rating due to sexual reference and language; therefore it is not intended for younger viewers.
